GRD 142 Restaurant Project
Mama Sol

Design Objective
This project focused on designing a visual identity system for a restaurant, including a logomark, menu design, and tagline. The goal was to create a brand that effectively represents the restaurant’s concept while appealing to its target audience. To achieve this, the project involved researching consumer demographics, developing branding strategies, and applying design principles such as Gestalt Theory, color theory, and visual organization. The final identity system needed to be visually cohesive, functional, and adaptable across various brand assets.

Design Brief
Mama Sol is a Hispanic family-centered restaurant celebrating culture and community. Its logomark is inspired by a Jarabe Tapatío dancer, whose flowing skirt resembles a radiant sun, reinforcing the restaurant’s name and vibrant energy.

Designed to be warm and inviting, the brand identity captures the essence of togetherness through a bold color palette and modern yet culturally rooted aesthetics. I developed target personas to ensure the branding resonated with the right audience, allowing for a strategic and audience-focused approach. A detailed client brief helped shape the creative direction, while careful consideration of business nomenclature ensured a cohesive and memorable identity.

The design process involved sketching multiple concepts, refining mockups, and exploring different visual directions to create a brand that seamlessly blends heritage with a contemporary appeal. Mama Sol’s identity embodies tradition and modernity, offering an engaging and welcoming experience for families and the community.
